Tracking progress was key to Dr. Matthew Prophet’s success. As each curriculum or new initiative was created, Prophet had the numbers to prove its success or display failings that were in need of attention. At Prophet’s retirement in 1991, he reported the key facts and educational issues about student performance in the Portland Public Schools that resulted from his career as the district’s superintendent.
